IN SABAH
The implementation of MAF’s programme in Sabah began in 2018 with the launch of the Sabah Health Access Programme (SHAPE) in Sandakan, aimed at addressing travel and treatment access barriers faced by vulnerable patients through the provision of transport incentives.
Following its success, the initiative expanded and supported by the establishment of a MAF office in Sandakan in 2022 and later in Kota Kinabalu in 2024, now serving patients across Sandakan, Kota Kinabalu, Kunak, Lahad Datu, Semporna, and other rural and semi-urban districts.
OUR PROGRAMME
Treatment, Care & Support
Many patients need to travel long distances, often over 100 km just to receive basic treatment. With 45% of Sabah’s population living in rural areas and a poverty rate of 19.7% (highest in Malaysia), access to healthcare is a major challenge.
MAF have been working since 2018 to catering the need of low-income patients accesses to health providers in Sabah.
MAF trying to address this problem through a special programme that subsidies transportation costs for patients from rural area to attend treatment at government health facilities. The programme SHAPE has previously supported patients diagnosed with chronic diseases with priority given to HIV/AIDS patients.

RECOGNISING LIVES IMPACTED TOGETHER
Malaysian AIDS Foundation is proud to present the Red Ribbon Kota Kinabalu High Tea in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. This deeply meaningful affair is set to unfold on 17 May 2026 at Hilton Kota Kinabalu, in conjunction with the International AIDS Memorial Day celebration.
One of the key objectives of the 2026 Kota Kinabalu Gala is to expand our Treatment, Care, and Support (TCS) initiatives for undocumented and underserved communities in Sabah, particularly in Sandakan, Tawau, and Semporna.
The High Tea focuses on expanding Treatment, Care, and Support (TCS) for underserved communities in Sabah, particularly in Sandakan, Tawau, and Semporna. In partnership with the Ministry of Health Malaysia, our programs follow the National Strategic Plan to End AIDS (NSPEA) 2030, working to reduce HIV infections, increase access to treatment, and raise awareness. These efforts also strengthen local NGOs and community groups, ensuring your support makes a real difference on the ground.
We invite our partners, supporters, and corporate citizens to show compassion and be part of the solution to end the AIDS epidemic in Malaysia.
