Lapland Arctic Ultra Challenge 2022

From March 6 – 16, 2022, history will be made when a Malaysian takes part in the world’s toughest foot race in the unforgiving wilderness of the Arctic Circle.

Jeff Lau, a 31-year-old elite ultra-marathon runner and a humanitarian, will attempt a 500km foot race across tundra forest, frozen lakes and rivers of the Swedish Lapland. He will cross the Arctic Circle – not once but twice – over a course of 10 days amidst bone-chilling temperature that can drop to minus 30 degrees Celsius, all in the name of AIDS.

Raising funds for the Paediatric AIDS Fund

Jeff is using this Ultra Marathon race as a platform to raise funds for the Paediatric AIDS Fund; a special programme by MAF that provides monthly sustenance to Malaysian children born with HIV, or directly affected by the disease. Launched in 1993, the PAF is one of our longest, continuous programmes that remains relevant until today because many HIV-impacted children are still experiencing stigma and discrimination and are at risk of neglect and abandonment due to their status. Qualified children under the PAF will receive a monthly allowance of RM 100 per month.

Red Ribbon Youth Ambassador

Jeff Lau

5/5

Jeff is no stranger to extreme race events and has time and again, devoted his superhuman efforts towards raising funds and awareness for AIDS.

In his debut Ultra Marathon effort in 2014, Jeff became the youngest participant (and only the 3rd ever Malaysian) to participate in the Marathon des Sables – a foot race that took place in the middle of the Moroccan Sahara Desert. From that point, there was no stopping him. His love for extreme sports and compassion for the AIDS cause saw him taking part in seven Ultra Marathon events at various exotic locations across the Globe – from the Sahara to the Canada Yukon arctic region; from the Amazon jungle in Peru to the Swiss Alps; the list of events that he has competed is both breath-taking and inspiring.
