How the Gala proceeds will be spent
Proceeds from the Malaysian AIDS Foundation Kuching Gala will be dedicated to the development of the One-Stop Healthcare Center for Integrated HIV Prevention, Treatment and Care Services for key affected population, mainly children and women from underprivileged background. The Centre, the first of its kind in Sarawak, will be operated by the Sarawak AIDS Concern Society (SACS), a local NGO and a Partner Organisation of the Malaysian AIDS Council (MAC).
Below are the proposed services and empowerment programmes to be provided by the One Stop Centre:
Halfway House
The centre will offer accommodation services/short-term transition for underprivileged individuals from Sarawak's interior area who have to travel far to seek HIV treatment at the Sarawak General Hospital. These people are reluctant to step forward about their status for fear of stigma and discrimination.
Referral Service
To help individuals who have not started HIV treatment at Sarawak General Hospital and to be a mediator in counselling programmes and provide peer group (“peer support”) guidance for People Living with HIV in Sarawak who live in isolation due to stigma and discrimination.
Community Empowerment
Programme to develop the skills of People Living with HIV, especially women and single mothers, so that they can lead an independent life and be a productive member of society. Through this programme, we hope to produce individuals living with HIV to step forward and share their success despite being HIV positive in efforts to increase public awareness and those infected with HIV.
