NGC Energy MiraGas cylinder sponsorship for Malaysian AIDS Foundation and Malaysian AIDS Council shelter homes enters seventh year
KUALA LUMPUR, 6 October 2016 – NGC Energy Sdn. Bhd. has renewed its signature corporate social responsibility initiative, the sponsorship of MiraGas liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders for shelter homes under the auspices of Malaysian AIDS Foundation and Malaysian AIDS Council, for another year.
Now in its seventh consecutive year, the sponsorship entails a total of 912 units of MiraGas LPG cylinders valued at RM 24,624 that will be distributed among 16 shelter homes providing treatment, care and support to 367 men, women and children living with or affected by HIV and AIDS nationwide.
“We at NGC Energy strive not only to meet the needs of our consumers but also enrich the lives and experiences of families and communities in which our business operates,” said Julianna Kamaruddin, General Manager of NGC Energy.
“Our partnership with the Malaysian AIDS Foundation and Malaysian AIDS Council has enabled us to enhance their shelter home service delivery and effect positive change in the social and health outcomes of underprivileged communities affected by HIV and AIDS.
“The MiraGas LPG cylinder sponsorship is a symbol of our commitment to providing an energy solution that fuels the hopes and dreams of our community as well as the aspiration of a society free from the negative impact of HIV and AIDS,” she added.
This year’s sponsorship was marked by a community volunteer programme at Faith Helping Centre, a shelter home operated by the Kuala Lumpur AIDS Support Services Society, a Partner Organisation of the Malaysian AIDS Council. Established in 1994, Faith Helping Centre offers a temporary refuge to men living with HIV who are neglected by their families. Using a peer-to-peer approach, services offered at the shelter home, such as basic nursing, counselling, health and treatment literacy, as well as medical and welfare referrals help to improve their quality of life and equip them with the skills, support and confidence upon reintegration into society.
“We are heartened to note that a pilot project that began with just six shelter homes in 2010 has grown into a full-fledged nationwide programme,” commented Professor Dr Adeeba Kamarulzaman, Chairman of the Malaysian AIDS Foundation on the NGC Energy partnership.
“The AIDS response thrives on such strategic multisectoral partnerships as the one demonstrated by NGC Energy. As we continue to accelerate our efforts to improve access to lifesaving HIV treatment for underprivileged Malaysians, we are grateful to NGC Energy for the continued support and hope it will inspire other industry players to follow suit.”
Over the years, NGC Energy has contributed a total of RM 157,572 through the MiraGas LPG cylinder sponsorship as well as to other fundraising activities of the Malaysian AIDS Foundation.
