About
ARROW AWARD and the ASEAN Business Coalition on HIV & AIDS (ASEAN-BCA)
The ASEAN Red Ribbon for Outstanding Workplace (ARROW) Award gives recognition to companies in every ASEAN member state for their remarkable initiatives to create a safe and healthy working environment through HIV/AIDS awareness, CSR and prevention programmes for their employees.
The prestigious Award is presented by the ASEAN Business Coalition on HIV & AIDS (ASEAN-BCA), which was established by the ASEAN Labour Ministers Meeting in 2014 to promote greater involvement of employers’ associations in ASEAN member states on HIV/AIDS prevention and control in the workplace. The Coalition’s members consist of the existing national business coalitions on AIDS and employers’ associations in each ASEAN member state.
In Malaysia, the BCA is represented by the Towards Ending AIDS by Malaysian Businesses (TEAMB), formerly known as the Malaysian Business Consortium for HIV/AIDS (MBCH).
The 1st ARROW Award Winner: Sime Darby
Sime Darby was honored as one of the six inaugural recipients of the ASEAN Red Ribbon for Outstanding Workplace (ARROW) Award in 2016, recognizing its non-discriminatory HR practices and impactful corporate social responsibility efforts in supporting people living with HIV/AIDS.
Through the Sime Darby Foundation, the company has committed RM3.82 million since 2013 to combat HIV/AIDS in Malaysia, partnering with the Malaysian AIDS Council and Malaysian AIDS Foundation, and became the only corporate entity funding antiretroviral treatment for the underprivileged—leading to its 2016 invitation to join Malaysia’s Country Coordinating Mechanism for the Global Fund.
The award, presented by the ASEAN Business Coalition on AIDS, was conferred on 14 September 2016 in Bogor, Indonesia, alongside five other regional companies: Standard Chartered Brunei, Cambodia’s Acleda Bank Plc, Indonesia’s PT Kaltim Prima Coal, Philippines’ Maynilad Water Services Inc, and Microchip Technology (Thailand) Co Ltd.
