Effective treatment for HIV infection already exists. When correctly prescribed, a daily dosage of antiretroviral medication (ARV) can bring down the viral load in an infected person to an undetectable level, keeping the immune system working and preventing illness.
Regrettably, not everyone has equal opportunities to obtain this vital medication. Specific types of ARV drugs are prohibitively costly, placing them beyond the reach of the typical Malaysian household. In such a situation, MAF intervenes, and you also have the opportunity to contribute to our cause, assisting those who urgently require aid.
We don’t just stop at providing treatment – our assistance also extends to improving the lives of People Living with HIV, with a particular focus on women and children. They are often unfairly impacted by stigma and discrimination, which can result in further marginalization.

People Living with HIV are discriminated against when accessing services, even in healthcare, and are more likely to experience poor mental health and poverty. RM 20 is how much it costs per day for PLHIV who need second line treatment to take their antiretroviral pills (ARV).
A RM50 donation
If you donated RM 50, that’s the same as the average cost of transportation for PLHIV who need to travel one-way from rural Samarahan district to Kuching General Hospital for follow-up treatment.
A RM100 donation
Donating RM 100 is equal to the monthly living allowance given to a child who benefits from the Paediatric AIDS Fund.

HOW MUCH YOUR DONATION GOES TO HELPING PEOPLE LIVING WITH HIV
For every RM 1 you donate to MAF, about 70 cents goes to helping People Living with HIV. We spend the rest on management and programme administration costs.
ABOUT THE MALAYSIAN AIDS FOUNDATION
Malaysian AIDS Foundation (MAF) was formed in 1993 and fully incorporated in 2003 under the Trustees Incorporation Act (1952) with registration number PPAB 03/2003. Our objectives are;
- Prevent the spread of HIV in Malaysia;
- Provide education on matters pertaining to HIV/AIDS to the family and friends of people living with HIV, the general public and the authorities at the national and local level in Malaysia;
- Render support to People Living with HIV;
- Protect the human rights of people in Malaysia who may suffer discrimination due to their HIV status;
Provide financial assistance or such other form of support to bodies, organisations and institutions in carrying out the activities and services described above.
