Special Project in Sarawak

TERATAK KASIH TOK NAN

The first and only facility of its kind in Sarawak, Teratak Kasih Tok Nan is a halfway boarding facility for low-income HIV patients from rural Sarawak for overnight stay when they seek treatment at the Sarawak General Hospital in Kuching. The centre also functions as a one-stop support centre for the local HIV community.

Teratak Kasih Tok Nan was established by MAF with strong support by the Sarawak State Government.

Teratak Kasih Tok Nan enjoys the patronage of Datin Patinggi Datuk Amar Hajjah Jamilah Haji Anu, who also dedicated the Centre to the memory of her late husband, Allahyarham Tan Sri Pehin Sri Haji Adenan bin Haji Satem, the 5th Chief Minister of Sarawak.

Teratak Kasih Tok Nan is a symbol of hope and care for the people of Sarawak portraying a great passion and commitment to ending AIDS.

The home was the first community-based facility established in Sarawak to serve the underprivileged people impacted by HIV and AIDS.

It is a place where such communities would grow and thrive towards improved health and social outcomes, as everyone deserves the right to a healthy life."

~ Datin Patinggi Datuk Amar Puan Sri Jamilah Haji Anu, Patron of Teratak Kasih Tok Nan.

TERATAK KASIH TOK NAN

For the People of Sarawak

The Centre – fondly known as Teratak Kasih Tok Nan, in honour of the late Chief Minister of Sarawak, Pehin Sri Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Haji Adenan Satem – serves as a safe space for HIV-impacted people and families in the local community to access HIV-related health, social and welfare services. It also acts as a halfway home for those travelling long distances to access HIV treatment at the Sarawak General Hospital in Kuching and can accommodate a maximum capacity of 13 occupants at a single time. The Centre was established by MAF in 2017 and operated by a local NGO partner, the Sarawak AIDS Concern Society.

Teratak Kasih Tok Nan is also the labour of love of Datuk Amar Datin Patinggi Hajah Jamilah Anu, the wife of Pehin Sri Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Haji Adenan Satem. Her compassion for the cause and dedication to help underprivileged community members impacted by HIV in Sarawak drove her to lead a very successful fundraising campaign for MAF back in 2016. She was also instrumental in getting all key stakeholders, including the Office of the Chief Minister of Sarawak, to back this project and fast-tracked the implementation of this critical project. Datuk Amar currently serves as the Patron of Teratak Kasih Tok Nan.
